Spring Meeting Recap

What a joy it was to gather in person for the Spring Meeting of the Metropolitan Association! We are especially grateful to Scarsdale Congregational Church for their warm hospitality and for providing such a welcoming and beautiful space for our time together. Special thanks to Rev. Kelly Hough Rogers and Lucy Werner, whose efforts were instrumental in making the day a success.

My heartfelt thanks also go to our Secretary, Charlaine Apsel, and the dedicated members of the Meeting & Planning Committee: Ron Wells (Chair), Dr. Ruth Shaffer, Joycelyn Howell, and Lucy Werner. I am equally grateful to Rev. Judy Van Kennen, Moderator of the New York Conference, who graciously stepped in that morning to provide music, and to Rev. Marsha Williams, our steadfast partner in ministry. I also want to recognize the New York Conference Board members who traveled long distances to be with us. To everyone who attended or supported the gathering in any way: thank you for all that you do on behalf of the Metropolitan Association.

All motions were approved, and the spirit of unity and engagement was palpable throughout the day. Rev. Dr. Kaji Douša offered a powerful and timely message—reminding us what it means to be the church in this moment, and calling us to stay alert, especially on behalf of those at the margins.

What touched me most was witnessing the deep commitment across our Association. So many of you raised your hands, lent your voices, and stepped forward to express interest in serving. I’m also grateful to the Nominating Committee for their excellent work in presenting a strong and thoughtful slate. Our collective presence and energy made my heart full. This is what shared ministry looks like.

A special highlight? Our new group photo which will soon grace the landing page of our refreshed Metropolitan Association website!

Thank you for showing up, for showing love, and for showing what it means for us to be in covenant together. If you have any questions or want to get more involved, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

“From Christ the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
— Ephesians 4:16 (NRSV)

With gratitude and joy,
